“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.”                                 — Exodus 20:4 —

God asked of Job,”… By what way is light diffused, Or the east wind scattered over the earth? Who has divided a channel for the overflowing water,
Or a path for the thunderbolt…” — Job 38: 24, 25 —

Can you send out lightnings, that they may go,
And say to you, ‘Here we are!’? — Job 38: 35 —

Jesus statue fire damages estimated at $700,000.

Charred remnants remained this morning, June 15, of the large Jesus statue iconic to Interstate 75 that was destroyed following an apparent lightning strike during a thunderstorm late Monday night.

Neu said indications are lightning struck the right hand of the statue. 911 calls received by Monroe and Warren County dispatchers confirm witnesses saw the hand on fire first.

The church was not damaged, but audio equipment housed in the music theater was damaged.

Earlier this morning and late Monday night, motorists were stopped along the highway and along Union Road in Monroe to watch the 62-foot King of Kings statue burn. The fire was reported at 11:15 p.m. Monday, June 14. Within minutes, all that was left was the steel frame of the statue at the church.

Church member Cassie Browning, 27, of Dayton, said she was driving north on I-75 on her way back from Tennessee when she and her family saw smoke and noticed the statue missing. “It meant so much to so many people,” Browning said. “The statue can be destroyed and gone, but Jesus can’t be.”

The fire spread to the attic area of the church’s adjacent amphitheater. There were no injuries, said Neu, who spoke just before 2:30 a.m. to media at the scene. It was a “hot fire,” he said, which made it more difficult to battle, but it was extinguished within about an hour.

“God struck God, I like the irony. Jesus struck Jesus,” said Dawn Smith, 25, of Hamilton, who was among those standing outside the vehicles along Union Road. “I had to see it. What else are you going to do on a Monday night?”

No, God did NOT strike God. Jesus did NOT strike Jesus. What we have here, is simple: God struck an idol; one that man made. God brought it down. I do not believe that a person had to bow down before it in order for it to be an idol. No telling how many people only had to drive past it, glance at it and have a false sense of security just by glancing at it.

The statue was constructed of wood and styrofoam over a steel framework that was anchored in concrete and covered with a fiberglass mat and resin exterior, according to the church. It was slated to undergo renovations this summer.

“It sent goosebumps through my whole body because I am a believer,” said Levi Walsh, 29.

Goosebumps? Because she is a believer? Why? It was a graven image, for pete sakes! It had no life. God does not need man’s graven images. Catholics and other religions have been doing this for ages; creating images and worshipping before them. Just like in Nebuchadnezzar’s day, nothing has changed with man in believing they must create images of one thing or another in order to worship God or gods.

“Of all the things that could have been struck, I just think that that would be protected. …

Why would anyone think an IDOL would be protected? God is about to either destroy or expose EVERY single idol in this nation that any of us have ever trusted in. Is it your money? Is it your church? Is it your job? Is it your pastor? Is it your community standing? Is it your family? WHAT is it that you have made greater than God? I can think of a few things in my own life that have already bit the dust And God is not done.

“It’s something that’s not supposed to happen, Jesus burning,” he said. “I had to see it with my own eyes.”

JESUS WAS NOT BURNING! A piece of worthless art was burning. Not Jesus! Yet, he had to see it. How odd. I wonder if this man gives any thought about an eternal hell. Now that is real.

“I can’t believe Jesus was struck,” said his brother, who noted the giant Hustler Hollywood sign for the adult store across the street was untouched. “It’s the last thing I expected to happen.”

Once again Jesus was not struck. Either God makes a path for the lightening bolt or He does not. I believe HE is the One who makes the path. For whatevever reasons He chooses. Don’t believe me that this was just a worthless piece of art? An idol? A graven image? Look what Paul had to say about such things when he was in Areopagus.

Then Paul stood in the midst and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:

Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.

ACTS 17:22-25 —

Right there, Paul is telling us God is not to be worshipped in such a way.

And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising.

Who is man to think he could even create anything near to the image of God?

Paul goes on: “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

WHY CARE ABOUT A STUPID STATUE? WHY care about something that God abhors? It was just a statue. How many would have half the passion for Jesus who is ALIVE, than they would this stupid statue?! Boy oh boy, this nation is sooooo warped! THIS is just a small example of what God is about to bring down in this nation. All the idols are coming down, people. Until nothing is left but God.
